Heritage in Motion: Fox Cloth in the Bentley EXP 15
Fox Brothers is proud to share its close involvement in Bentley’s most recent design study, the EXP 15, a bold vision of the grand tourer reimagined for the future. Revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, this concept car builds upon the legacy of the EXP 100 GT and previews Bentley’s first all electric grand tourer, due in 2026.
Like the EXP 15, which has taken its inspiration from the 1930 Bentley Speed Six Gurney Nutting Sportsman Coupé, often known as the “Blue Train,” the Fox Brothers cloth developed for the concept car is a modern interpretation of a proven classic. Based on our traditional thorn proof, originally created to be worn as a robust overcoat, the cloth was first woven in two colours to help disguise mud and dust kicked up from country riding. Its tight satin weave refused to be snagged by passing gorse and brambles, and it combined both woollen and worsted yarns to balance strength with structure.
This historic technical cloth has now been brought into the 21st century in a soft melange grey, with a digitally applied damson ombré effect developed specifically for Bentley. Through virtual reality, the cloth can be seen cocooning the seats, stretching across the side panels and offset by 3D printed titanium finishes.
Woven entirely in our Somerset mill, the cloth remains true to its heritage while embracing a new level of refinement for automotive use. It offers a whisper quiet finish, a supple hand and a subtle grain that echoes the contours of Bentley’s cabin. Every yard carries the story of British clothmaking, from raw wool selection through the precise weaving that defines both comfort and character.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to craft, innovation and provenance. The partnership between Fox Brothers and Bentley brings together two heritage names who value meticulous engineering and authentic cloth.
We are honoured to contribute to this considered and imaginative expression of British automotive design.
