FD188 : Old English Blue Chalk Stripe

Old English Blue Chalk Stripe is drawn from a late 1920s archive design, from a time when flannel was woven with conviction and tailoring was cut accordingly. Cloth was expected to hold its form, to sit properly on the body and to endure beyond passing fashion, and that expectation has not changed.

The blue is deep and composed. Not bright, not cold, but settled. It has depth. The stripe is woven with a softly chalked stripe, formed within the weave and revealed through the gentle raising of the flannel finish. The line is slightly broken, giving character without excess.

Woven at a proper 19 to 20 ounces in old money, this is flannel with true presence. The weight gives authority to a coat and balance to a jacket. It allows a shoulder to sit correctly and a trouser to fall cleanly from the waist. The structure of the weave does the work, allowing the cut to speak.

Woven in the West of England, where this standard was established and continues without compromise. For more than two centuries, Fox has defined what flannel should be through substance in the weave, depth in the finish and weight enough to shape proper tailoring. The standard remains unchanged. If it is not Fox, it is not flannel.
